Why We Built the New Censony Website on Twill
When we rebuilt the Censony website, our priority was to create a platform that gives us complete freedom today — and a strong foundation for everything we plan to publish in the future. We wanted a system that wouldn’t rely on dozens of plugins, wouldn’t require constant updates, and wouldn’t lock us into ongoing maintenance costs just to keep things stable.
After reviewing several CMS options, we chose Twill, a Laravel-based content management toolkit that lets us build exactly what we need while staying lightweight, scalable, and cost-efficient.
A flexible, future-ready setup
Although the website is small today, it will grow into a broader platform with case studies, industry pages, product content, and a blog. Twill allows us to prepare for that growth with proper content structure from the start.
Because Twill separates content management from the front end, the site remains fast and easy to evolve — whether we add new layouts, integrate tools, or extend it into a mobile experience.
A cleaner and more sustainable approach
Unlike many CMS platforms, Twill does not come with heavy plugins, theme builders, or auto-loaded scripts. This means:
faster page loads
lower hosting requirements
less data transfer
reduced digital carbon footprint
For us, that translates into a sustainable architecture that’s efficient for both users and infrastructure.
Built to support our team — without extra overhead
Twill is built on Laravel, which our development team uses daily. This gives us:
a clean development workflow
straightforward updates
reliable version control
no reliance on external marketplaces of plugins
no unexpected breakages after updates
This consistency directly reduces long-term maintenance costs, since fewer things can “break” compared to plugin-heavy CMS solutions.
Easy for the team to update
Twill’s block-based editor lets us create our own building blocks — like hero sections, grids, testimonials, or callouts — that the team can reuse when publishing new pages. Editors have freedom, while design stays consistent.
And importantly:
there are no subscription fees, paid add-ons, or licensing costs required to keep using Twill.
Why Twill Is More Cost-Efficient Than Other CMS Options
Twill’s cost-efficiency comes from its simplicity and the absence of hidden overhead. Unlike many CMS platforms that require paid licenses, premium themes, or a collection of third-party plugins, Twill is open-source and designed to operate without additional extensions. This reduces both upfront expenses and long-term maintenance work, since there are fewer components that need updates or monitoring.
Because the site runs on a lightweight Laravel-based system, hosting requirements remain modest, and there is no need for ongoing subscription fees. Working within a single, consistent development stack also lowers maintenance effort over time, as updates and improvements can be made without navigating multiple technologies or vendor ecosystems.
In practical terms, Twill allows us to maintain a custom, flexible CMS with a smaller operational footprint and more predictable long-term costs.
The Result
With Twill, we built a website that is:
fast and modern, supported by a clean, future-ready architecture
sustainable and lightweight, using fewer resources and avoiding unnecessary code
structured for growth, with content models that scale naturally
cost-efficient, thanks to reduced maintenance needs and no licensing or plugin expenses
aligned with our development workflow, making future updates straightforward
easy for editors to manage, without compromising the design system
Twill gives us a practical, sustainable foundation that supports the website today and remains adaptable as Censony continues to grow.
